The Royal Cartographer is a worldbuilding/mapmaking RPG for 2-4 in which players, as representatives of their culture, negotiate which parts of their personal maps will be represented on the kingdom's "official" map
In the Solo Journaling version, you will also play as the Cartographer - but alas, even then you do not have total control of your creations, for the Regent has very specific demands.
All you need to play are two six-sided die per person and a deck of cards - the game comes with Maps to photocopy, but you can also use your own!
TRC plays out in two distinct phases, whether solo or with 2-4 players
Community Phase:
You will be creating a map for a single (or more, in solo play) community which inhabits the land represented on the map. Each player has their own copy of the same map and what you draw is determined by the traits you have chosen for your community.
The Royal Cartographer Phase:
The Royal Cartographer (played by a deck of cards) will pick and choose whose landmarks will be represented on the map. Their outlook is, on request of the Regent, simplistic and reductive. But players can push back against this, negotiating among themselves to attempt drawing a different map.
